Hulu Starts Showing ABC Content
by wtlfan ([info]wtlfan)
at le 30 décembre 2009 (23:47)

Hulu users can now watch episodes of “Grey’s Anatomy” – five episodes from season five, to be exact.

“Over the next two weeks, more ABC shows will launch on Hulu as part of our ongoing Hulu Days of Summer promotion, including current hits like I Survived a Japanese Game Show and The Superstars, as well as popular shows like Desperate Housewives, Ugly Betty and Scrubs,” a Hulu spokesman said.

Hulu will keep users apprised of new additions to the site via its Twitter feed.

In late April, the Walt Disney Company announced that it would become a joint venture partner and equity owner of Hulu.com, which was then a joint venture between NBC Universal and News Corp. Under the deal, Hulu.com will add content from ABC’s primetime lineup, as well as cable channels like ABC Family, SOAPNet, and The Disney Channel. Disney will also contribute selections from Walt Disney Studios and original, short-form content.

at le 30 décembre 2009 (17:37)

Eric Dane and Rebecca Gayheart will be thinking pink when their bundle of joy arrives later this winter.

The couple is expecting a baby girl, a source tells PEOPLE.

Grey's Anatomy star Dane, 37, and Gayheart, 38, shared their good news in September by stepping out once the actress began to show, but never formally announced the pregnancy.

The couple were married in a 2004 Vegas wedding.

News of the Gayheart-Dane baby's gender was first reported by E! Online's Marc Malkin.

Justin Bartha Cures His 'Hangover' By Landing A Gig In Broadway's 'Lend Me A Tenor'
by wtlfan ([info]wtlfan)
at le 29 décembre 2009 (18:17)

By Matt Thompson

After every good old "Hangover," the next step is to hit Broadway. Justin Bartha is well on his way. According to Variety, he is set to debut on Broadway for the first time in a revival of the Stanley Tucci-directed "Lend Me a Tenor." He replaces the formerly hyped "Grey’s Anatomy" star T.R. Knight, who decided to drop out.

Although it’s not official, as reps for the production wouldn’t confirm the Justin's casting, his pictures are registered amid the cast on Telecharge.

"Lend Me a Tenor" is a comedy, in which Justin will play Max, an unlucky assistant to the general manager at the Cleveland Opera Company. Max has to wear blackface as he unexpectedly fills in for the MIA star of the 1930-version of the play "Othello." Justin’s costars will be Anthony LaPaglia and Tony Shalhoub.

The play originally debuted in 1989 on Broadway, where it received two Tony awards (out of seven nominations). It will begin previews on March 11 for an opening on April 4.

2009's Worst Sex Scenes: Congratulations, Katherine Heigl, for making the list twice
by wtlfan ([info]wtlfan)
at le 29 décembre 2009 (13:51)

(Newser) – Sometimes on-screen sex scenes are just sex…not sexy. The Frisky points to a list on YourTango detailing the 10 worst sex scenes of 2009:

  • The Watchmen: Two superheroes have sex on a spaceship…with Leonard Cohen’s “Hallelujah” playing in the background. Enough said.
  • The Ugly Truth: Katherine Heigl’s orgasm-in-a-restaurant scene just can’t live up to the original from When Harry Met Sally.

  • Bruno: Sacha Baron Cohen’s entire film is chock-full of awkward, cringe-inducing sex scenes—how can you choose just one?
  • Grey’s Anatomy: Katherine Heigl scores a second spot on the list by having sex with a ghost—even if it was the ghost of her ex-fiance, it’s justweird.
  • Jennifer’s Body: Megan Fox and Amanda Seyfried’s girl-on-girl scene did not live up to the hype…
  • Gossip Girl: …and neither did this show’s much-anticipated threesome.

Couples Watch: Orlando & Miranda's Dance Floor Display
by wtlfan ([info]wtlfan)
at le 29 décembre 2009 (08:39)

• An early flight the next morning didn't stop Orlando Bloom and model girlfriend Miranda Kerr from tearing up the dance floor at LIV nightclub in Miami's Fontainebleau Hotel on Saturday night. The couple arrived at their table around midnight, sipping bottled water and chatting with friends, including actor Jason Statham. When the deejay played Lady Gaga's "Bad Romance," a source says Kerr "held Bloom's hand as she danced."

Jennifer Lopez and Marc Anthony celebrated the holiday with their extended family – including her mom Guadalupe and sister Lynda – at Disneyland in Anaheim, Calif. The couple took their 22-month-old twins, Max and Emme, to the theme park, and Lopez and her husband "walked around the park hand-in-hand," an eyewitness says. "They both seemed very happy and excited to spend the holiday with their whole family." On Christmas Day, the couple took their kids to watch the parade – and also took them on various rides. Says the eyewitness: "Max and Emme were so cute and big."

• New parents Ellen Pompeo and Chris Ivery left 3-month-old daughter Stella Luna home with Pompeo's parents for a date night at L.A.'s Staples Center. The couple watched as the L.A. Lakers took on the Cleveland Cavaliers. "Ellen and Chris were in a good mood and holding hands during the game," an eyewitness tells us.

Eric Dane, Rebecca Gayheart Expecting a Girl
by wtlfan ([info]wtlfan)
at le 29 décembre 2009 (08:31)

Rebecca Gayheart and Eric Dane's McBaby will be a girl.

The Grey's Anatomy star, who will also be guest starring on Private Practice January 14, and his wife confirmed they were expecting first child in November.

The couple, who tied the knot five years ago, haven't said much publicly about their baby-to-be, but they have expressed desire to start a family in the recent past.

"We've always wanted to be parents," Gayheart said.

"I think that without a doubt, Eric is going to be the most wonderful dad, and hopefully I'll be a good mom too. We're absolutely looking forward to it."

She is reportedly due in March, and buzz that Dane got Rebecca Gayheart pregnant came at a good time for the couple, after the year they just went through.

They ended the summer with some bad press after the release of that Eric Dane nude tape, which was originally being called a sex tape, albeit without sex.

He was frolicking with Rebecca and Kari Anne Peniche, also nude.

Best Series of the Decade: The No Chancers and the Cruelest Cuts. A list, with blood.
by wtlfan ([info]wtlfan)
at le 27 décembre 2009 (09:07)

Let's quickly recap: My Best Series of the Decade list - at least the Top 10 of it - will appear in The Chronicle on Jan. 1. As I've noted before, this has been both a wonderfully fun and surprisingly grueling exercise and I've chewed on it for nearly two months. I came up with a total of 25 series - in order, of course - that merited being among the Best Series of the Decade. (Yes, very late in the game - last night, to be exact, I added two more.) Tomorrow, right here on The Bastard Machine, I will have No.'s 11 - 25. That's a week before the Top 10. Plenty of time to get the arguments (and, um, agreements, yes?) kick-started.

But today, here's my list of No Chancers (they were never in consideration) and The Cruelest Cuts (those that were very difficult to weed out). Just so you know what the rules are, you should read this before bitching about whatever you're going to bitch about. No need to get exercised for no good reason. There will be plenty of good reasons later!

THE NO CHANCERS is a partial list - I mean, I'm not going to include something like "Hank" from this season or, you know, "Private Practice." Some things are no-brainers, not just NO CHANCERS. The series on this list have either been given serious consideration elsewhere by some critics or have popped up in comments, emails or social networking discussions from readers to me. But they ended up being shows that never seriously got into my internal discussion/debate, like the CRUELEST CUTS did. That latter group were shows with exceptional seasons, memorable characters and real, quantifiable quality. They just fell slightly short compared to those that did make it.

Hit the link for both lists:

You're kidding, right?

As for the NO CHANCERS, they are in no particular order. Emphasis on the "no."

"Grey's Anatomy." Sugar and soap. Maybe somebody's guilty pleasure, but not a show for a list of any gravitas.

More actors join Ojai Playwrights Conference
by wtlfan ([info]wtlfan)
at le 27 décembre 2009 (09:04)

Two Oscar winners and a famous “bartender” have joined the list of celebrities who will appear during a Jan. 30 benefit for the Ojai Playwrights Conference.

Sally Field, who earned Academy Awards for “Norma Rae” and “Places in the Heart,” will be joined by Mary Steenburgen, best supporting actress for “Melvin and Howard,” during the one-night-only show on the Matilija Auditorium stage.

Also performing will be Ted Danson, who played philandering bartender Sam Malone for 11 seasons on the sitcom “Cheers.” Danson is now featured on the HBO series “Bored to Death” and has a home in Ojai with wife Steenburgen.

The couple have never participated in the annual fundraiser. Field last joined the cast in 2008. The performance this year will feature excerpts of plays written by the four-time Tony Award winning playwright Terrence McNally, who will be in attendance.

Also appearing will be “Grey’s Anatomy” star Sandra Oh, who earned an Oscar nomination for her role in “Sideways”; John Glover, who played Lionel Luthor on the TV series “Smallville,” and Amanda McBroom, the Ojai-based songwriter (“The Rose”) and actress-playwright (“Lady Macbeth Sings the Blues”).

The good, the bad and the unwatchable

Jumped the Shark

Once-popular shows (some still strong in the ratings) that have lost their way and might not find their way back.

* Heroes (NBC): What this should have been was a series of TV movies or graphic novels. The plot had had so many do-overs by this point, you have to ask yourself why they keep trying. * House (FOX): Does anyone really care of House and Cuddy make a cute couple? Seriously? A once-great medical drama that decided to become a soap opera worthy of ... of ... * Grey's Anatomy (ABC): ... this piece of dreck.

Robitaille still lucky

While Canadians don't outright "own" Tinseltown, it's a fact that those born in the True North are some of the biggest players around.

There are comedians Jim Carrey, Mike Myers, Eugene Levy and Seth Rogen; actors such as Rachel McAdams, Ryan Gosling, Sandra Oh, all the Sutherland men, William Shatner, Ryan Reynolds; singers Avril Lavigne, Alanis Morissette, Leonard Cohen and Neil Young.

And let's not forget the directors working in this town, composers and writers -- everyone from James Cameron to Jason Reitman to Paul Haggis. All of the above, and numerous others, could make the Top 10 list of influential and famous Canadians this year, but I'm narrowing the category to this: Those who are most boldly Canadian, who exude Canadian-ness in their speech and actions.

The list then:

7. Sandra Oh

As fights erupted off camera among the staff of the popular TV series Grey's Anatomy, Oh stayed as neutral as her home country and focused on the job. She is a terrific performer, intelligent, a good citizen and mentor to others.

TV's hits and misses in 2009
by wtlfan ([info]wtlfan)
at le 27 décembre 2009 (09:00)

SUNDAY NIGHT: Incisive and never flabby, Seven's polished current affairs program proves there will always be a place for this style of show if it's done properly. Mike Munro's segment on wheelchair athlete Kurt Fearnley training for the Kokoda Track was a standout.

... AND A MISS

GREY'S ANATOMY: I'm tempted to nominate Ten's Grand Final coverage, but it was really only the result that disappointed me. So let's go for this medical drama. It used to be an intriguing drama but it's become a lazy soap.
